Konzelmann Estate Winery: a wedding venue guide

Konzelmann Estate Winery

Official Site ↗

Konzelmann Estate Winery is a working family winery on Lakeshore Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a few minutes from Old Town. It sells wine, runs tastings and tours seven days a week, and takes a small number of weddings alongside all of that.

The number that decides everything here is 70. That is the most the winery says it can host, and it is not a ceiling the property is working around — its own wording is that it specializes in “providing a private setting for smaller groups”. The wedding offering is built at that scale rather than trimmed down to it.

The spaces

Konzelmann’s wedding offering is built around a new tasting hall, which the winery describes as suiting receptions of up to 70 guests. Seventy is also the maximum given on its receptions page, so the two figures agree.

The venue rental covers the room, tables and chairs, a bar, coat check, washrooms, Wi-Fi and free parking, and the winery assigns a venue coordinator to the event. It also offers à la carte help and keeps a network of partners for catering, music and photography. There is no restaurant on site — charcuterie and pairing options are arranged separately when you book.

Spaces and packages change. Take the current list, and anything about ceremony arrangements or outdoor options, from Konzelmann’s event and hospitality team directly rather than from a third-party listing, including this one.

Planning notes

70 guests is the number to work from. Up to that, the property is built around a wedding of your size. Past it, one of the larger Niagara wineries will be the better fit.

Winter is on the table. Alongside its main wedding information the winery publishes a winter wedding package, so a date outside the summer season is worth asking about rather than ruling out.

It is a working winery with a public tasting operation. Konzelmann runs tastings, tours and wine workshops and sells wine on site — daily from 10 to 6 through summer and fall, and on shorter weekday hours through winter and spring. Ask how your booking sits against public hours on your date.

The Photo Pass is worth knowing about. Separately from a wedding, the winery sells a Photo Pass for portrait sessions on the property: 1.5 or 3 hours, your own photographer and videographer, and access to several on-site locations including the barrel cellar and the vineyards. It is limited to two people and up to two photographers, with additional guests charged per head. If you are bringing a photographer and a videographer, confirm how the pair counts.

Guest transport is on you. The winery’s FAQ says it does not provide a shuttle service. Parking is free and there is plenty of it, but overnight parking is not permitted — so settle how people are getting home well before the invitations go out.

Ask about accessibility. The same FAQ says there is no elevator on site, and that a handful of spaces — the barrel cellar and the tower among them — are not accessible. Worth checking against the rooms in your plan.

The Konzelmann family has been making wine for generations. The winery’s own history starts in Uhlbach, Germany, where Friederich Konzelmann left the restaurant trade for winemaking and released his first public vintage in 1893. By 1980 his great-grandson Herbert had a well established business there and had begun looking at Canada. The wines will be on your tables, and the winery says it is known for its peach wine.

Location. The winery puts itself a few minutes from Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake. There is no accommodation on the property, so Old Town is where most guests will end up staying.

Who it suits

Konzelmann suits a couple planning a small wedding on purpose — a list inside 70, an evening held in one room rather than spread across a property, and a working estate rather than a venue dressed as one. It suits a date outside the summer season too, which the winery publishes a package for.

Past 70 guests, or if you want accommodation on the property, one of the larger Niagara wineries below will be the better fit.

For couples comparing Niagara wineries by size: Chateau des Charmes and Ravine Vineyard handle up to 250, The Hare Wine Co. around 130, and Konzelmann and Queenston Mile sit at the smaller end.
